(Washington, D.C.) In response to the selection of Rep. Hilda Solis (D-Calif.) as Secretary of Labor in the Obama administration, Dan Stein, president of FAIR, issued the following statement:
"President-elect Obama’s selection of a labor secretary who has steadfastly opposed protecting American workers from the impact of millions of illegal aliens in our labor force is yet another blow to hard-working families who desperately need those jobs. Both in Congress and as a member of the California Legislature, Hilda Solis has vigorously opposed efforts to institute and enforce laws against employing illegal aliens.
"If confirmed, Rep. Solis will assume the helm of the Department of Labor at a time when American workers face the worst crisis in generations. The U.S. economy has lost 1.25 million jobs during the last three months, and that crisis is likely to be exacerbated as the effects of the announced Chrysler shut-down ripple across the economy.
"The Department of Labor has a critical role to play in developing and enforcing a system that holds all employers accountable for ensuring that the workers they hire are legally entitled to work in the U.S., in addition to ensuring that wage and safety standards are enforced. At a time when the nation is facing an unemployment crisis, we need a Labor secretary who is prepared to defend the interests of American workers, not an advocate for the rights of illegal aliens. Sadly, Rep. Solis’s record does not indicate that she will be the strong advocate desperate American workers need in their corner.
"We hope that as president, Mr. Obama will uphold the trust the voters placed in him and make protecting the jobs of American workers a top priority. With more than 10 million Americans unemployed and millions more underemployed, it is essential that the new president direct all cabinet officers to use the authority of the federal government to ensure that American jobs are filled by legal U.S. workers."
Rep. Solis’s Record in Congress
Rep. Solis was a cosponsor in 2007 of H.R. 1645, the STRIVE Act. The STRIVE Act would have granted amnesty to an estimated 12 million illegal aliens and severely undermined the interests of U.S. workers. H.R. 1645 would have:
Created a new H-2C guest worker visa, adding between 400,000 and 600,000 new foreign guest workers. These workers would have been permitted to apply for permanent residency.
Allowed employers to layoff American workers in order to hire H-2C workers.
Doubled the number of employment-based immigration visas.
Other key votes relating to the interests of American workers included:
Support for allowing illegal aliens to collect Social Security benefits.
Opposition to REAL ID Act necessary to prevent illegal aliens from using fake IDs to gain employment.
Opposition to a measure to increase funding for E-Verify program.
Support, as a member of the California Legislature, for driver’s licenses for illegal aliens.

SENATE BILL S. 2433 - THE GLOBAL POVERTY ACT
According to David Bossie, President of the group 'Citizens United for American Sovereignty', based out of Merrifield Virginia , {website: http://www.citizensunited.org/} the above mentioned Senate Bill (S. 2433) is a piece of legislation in the works that all Americans need to know about . . . and know now!
This bill, sponsored by none other than Sen. Barack Obama, with the backing of Joe Biden on the Foreign Relations Committee, and liberal democrats in Congress, is nothing short of a massive giveaway of American wealth around the world, and a betrayal of the public trust, because, if passed, this bill would give over many aspects of our sovereignty to the United Nations.
The noble sounding name of this bill, 'The Global Poverty Act' is actually a Global Tax, payable to the United Nations that will be required of all American taxpayers. If passed in the Senate, the House has already passed it; this bill would require the U.S. to increase our foreign aid by $65 BILLION per year, or $845 BILLION over the next 13 years! That's on top of the billions of dollars in foreign aid we already pay out!
In addition to the economic burdens this potential law would place on our precarious economy, the bill, if passed in the Senate, would also endanger our constitutionally protected rights and freedoms by obligating us to meet certain United Nations mandates.
According to Senator Obama, we should establish these United Nations' goals as benchmarks for U.S. spending.
What are they?
1. The creation of a U.N. International Criminal Court having the power to try and convict American citizens and soldiers without any protection from the U.S. Constitution.
2. A standing United Nations Army forcing U.S. soldiers to serve under U.N. command.
3. A Gun Ban on all small arms and light weapons–which would repeal our Second Amendment right to bear arms.
4. The ratification of the ' Kyoto ' global warming treaty and numerous other anti-American measures.
Recently, the Senate Subcommittee on Foreign Relations (where Sen. Joe Biden sits) approved this plan by a voice vote without any discussion! Why all the secrecy? If Senators Obama and Biden are so proud of this legislation, then why don't they bring it out into the light of day and let the American people have a look at it instead of hiding it behind closed doors and sneaking it through Congress for late night votes.
It may be only a matter of time before this dangerous legislation reaches a floor vote in the full body of the Senate.

Immigration-overhaul supporters hope their hour has come
With Obama in office, a sympathetic Cabinet and more Democrats in Congress, supporters hope to revive a reform package next year. But the economic downturn sparks worry about protecting U.S. workers.

Immigrant advocates said Thursday that long-stalled efforts to legalize millions of illegal migrants, crack down on employers who hire them and win more family visas would be revived next year and could possibly succeed in early 2010 following sizable Democratic gains powered by record turnouts of Latino voters in the November election.
"It's another indication that immigration reform is going to be a high priority for the incoming administration," said David Mermin, a pollster with Lake Research Partners. Mermin said that the majority of Americans he surveyed for America's Voice support a comprehensive solution that would secure the borders, crack down on employers who hire illegal immigrants, and offer legalization to undocumented migrants who pay fines, learn English and meet other requirements.
But Ira Melman of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a Washington-based restrictionist organization, said its own polling by Zogby International showed that the majority of Americans are concerned that legalizing immigrants during the economic downturn would hurt U.S. workers.
"It's going to be very, very difficult to sell this to the American people when the economy is generally in a state of collapse," Melman said.

US deports 46 percent more Mexicans and Central Americans

The United States deported more than 154,000 Mexicans and Central Americans in the 2008 fiscal year, in a 46 percent rise on the previous year, an official statement said here Thursday.
More than 212,000 were deported altogether, with almost three quarters from Mexico and Central America, according to the statement released by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the border town of McAllen, Texas.
Most -- 82,000 -- were Mexicans, many who had crossed their country's 2,000-mile (3170-kilometer) land border with the southern United States.

Every local news story during our subfreezing nights features homeless Coloradans crowding into city housing, sitting in soup kitchens or lining up for $20.00 handouts by area churches. One local expert estimated 10,000 homeless in Colorado.Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post journalists write tear-jerker stories about our "…hungry, homeless and hopeless."
Later in the papers, they speculate that Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper might be tapped for U.S. Senator to serve in place of Salazar who has been promoted to Secretary of the Interior in the Obama administration.
What blows me away stems from the fact that men such as John Hickenlooper collaborate with area businesses that caused unemployment that leads to homelessness in the first place. Why is that?
Estimates show that between 300,000 to 500,000 illegal aliens remain in Colorado while working illegally at ‘slave wages’ at fast food, ski resorts, construction, painting, roofing and retail. They steal Social Security numbers while they displace Coloradans from jobs. Illegal aliens and their children cost Colorado taxpayers $1.1 billion annually for education, medication and incarceration. Biden would not automatically become president. Because Obama knowingly and with criminal intent perpetrated a fraud upon the American people when he declared his candidacy, his selection of a VP candidate would be meaningless as it was an element of the fraud. Additionally, as Edwin pointed out in his column, any legislation signed by Obama into law which brings a criminal indictment would open the flood gates to challenges. If Obama signed another one of these unconstitutional "hate crime" laws and Joe Smith is charged, he can and must use as his defense the fact that Obama is an impostor and has no authority to sign such legislation into law.
